Signs of nausea

Queasiness or feeling the need to throw up is often experienced before, during, or after vomiting. It is commonly caused by medications, stomach/bowel problems, or constipation.

These are common signs of nausea:

  • Pain or discomfort in the stomach
  • Overproduction of saliva
  • Retching or dry heaving
  • Loss of appetite
  • Heightened sensitivity to smells
  • Bloating, or a feeling of fullness in the stomach

Pay special attention to these symptoms when nausea gets worse:

  • Persistent vomiting and inability to keep fluids down
  • Blood in vomit
  • Constipation
  • Fever (temperature over 38℃/100.4℉)
  • Confusion, altered mental state or blurred vision
  • Increased heart rate and/or palpitations
  • Unbearable stomach pain
