Signs of pain

A constant or occasional unpleasant sensation that can be sharp or dull, sting, burn, or ache. This can be caused by the illness, its treatments, or medications.

These are common signs of pain:

  • Restlessness
  • Noisy, fast or shallow breathing
  • Facial grimacing
  • Sweating
  • Irritability and/or agitation
  • Increased heart rate

Pay special attention to these symptoms when the pain gets out of control:

  • Fever (temperature over 38℃/100.4℉)
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Extreme tiredness or weakness
  • Stomach pain
  • Swelling
  • Confusion
  • Changes in bowels or bladder function
  • Unexplained weight loss
