Signs of fever
Increase in body temperatures, typically over 38°C/100.4℉.
These are common signs of fever:
- Increased body temperature, typically over 38°C/100.4℉
- Feeling hot or flushed
- Chills, shivering and/or sweating
- Body aches, fatigue, weakness, and loss of appetite
- Headaches
Pay special attention to these symptoms when the fever also includes one or more of the following:
- Increased or rapid heart rate (greater than 100 beats per minute, at rest)
- Constant low blood pressure or sudden drop in blood pressure
- Increased breathing rate, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Sharp chest pain or pain on breathing
- Severe coughing, especially coughing up blood or mucus that's a strange color (not white or clear)
- Reduced urine output
- Altered mental state, such as confusion, irritability or delirium
- Decreased responsiveness or loss of consciousness
- Seizures or uncontrolled movements
- Neck stiffness and/or sensitivity to light
